Chapter 39: Demonstrating Power in the Square
Chapter 39: Demonstrating Power in the Square
Galactic Era 341, Star Marker (1, 1, 7, 4c0).
The Alpha Fleet emerged from a wormhole in Sirius's black hole and reached a point two light-years away from the star Kepler-186. After exiting the wormhole, the Alpha Fleet activated an electromagnetic black hole and an anti-gravitational field, knowing that over 460 years had passed and the Amaran civilization's technology might have reached a relatively advanced level. The Alpha Fleet traveled at near the speed of light.
What puzzled the Alpha Fleet was that it didn't detect any interstellar ships from the Ama civilization along its route, nor did it detect any warships or anything similar in the skies above Ama. The Alpha Fleet only detected a probe 2.8 light-years away, similar to Voyager 2 launched during the Earth era, leaving the Kepler-186 star system and heading away from its star. Had the Ama civilization encountered some unexpected situation in its development?
Two years later, the stealthy Alpha Fleet arrived at the Kepler-186 star system. In accordance with the "Earth Humanity Interstellar Navigation Guidelines" and the "Earth Humanity Interstellar Civilization Contact Regulations," the Alpha Fleet first secretly deployed a super-large teleportation portal and five large teleportation portals near Kepler-186. The Alpha Fleet then stationed itself near the star. Zhou Yuan, Wei Shan, and 18 interstellar special forces soldiers were dispatched to the planet Ama.
Twenty people arrived above Planet Ama in five stealth flying saucers. Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan were teleported by light to the edge of a metropolis, and then the five stealth flying saucers closely followed them, their duty being to protect the two of them.
Soon, Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan arrived in the metropolis. The city's architecture was quite grand, with vintage cars on the road, buses packed with passengers, many people riding bicycles, and pedestrians flowing endlessly. Judging from the architecture and transportation, the technological level of the Amaran civilization was roughly equivalent to the 1990s in the human Earth era. The pedestrians gave Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan strange looks, whispering and discussing amongst themselves, probably attracted by their trendy clothes. The two remained silent, collecting samples of the Amaran language along the way, and then learning it using their portable interstellar translator.
Just as Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan were waiting at the traffic light, preparing to cross the road to the other side, suddenly sirens blared, and five police cars, flashing lights and sirens, rushed towards them. Realizing something was wrong, the two immediately lowered their heads and turned back. Passersby, unaware of what was happening, turned to look. With a screech of brakes, ten uniformed police officers jumped out of the five police cars, each holding a pistol shaped like a whistle.
"You two in front, stop! Don't move! Hands up! Slowly turn around, or we'll shoot!" the lead policeman shouted at them.
The two men had no choice but to turn around and obey orders. Ten policemen, guns drawn, slowly approached them.
"Please show your identification."
"Sir, we've lost our identification."
"Is that so? Then I'm sorry. According to the rules, you two must come with us to the police station."
"Brother Zhou, what should we do?" Wei Shan asked Zhou Yuan. At Zhou Yuan's repeated requests, Wei Shan had already changed how she addressed him.
"Shan, don't be afraid. This planet Ama is a bit strange. Since we've already attracted their attention, our covert operation won't go smoothly. Let's just mess around and cause some trouble." Zhou Yuan winked at Wei Shan, looking mischievous.
"I'll do whatever my elder brother says."
"I want to know what exactly happened on this planet."
"Stop whispering and walk over slowly." The lead officer and another officer, with a gun in their right hand and handcuffs in their left, cautiously approached the two men, preparing to take them away.
"Brother, do you believe in God?"
"I do not believe."
“God will punish you.” Zhou Yuan shook his head, seemingly expressing regret, then raised his right hand and pointed upwards.
As soon as Zhou Yuan finished speaking, the ten policemen felt something pulling at their right hands, which were holding pistols. The pistols seemed about to slip from their grasp, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't hold on. One policeman used too much force and was pulled off the ground by the pistol. He had to give up and jumped down before the pistol even reached its maximum height, rubbing his hand, which was red from the pistol's grip. After slipping from their hands, the ten pistols stopped seven or eight meters above the policemen's heads, arranged in a perfectly aligned circle, with the muzzles pointing downwards at the ten officers! Everyone was stunned. The policemen's eyes widened in fear, their legs trembling, and they dared not approach. Passersby held their breath, worried that the pistols might fire automatically. Many took out their phones and cameras to take pictures and videos. Instantly, this bizarre scene was reported on the internet, television, and radio. The government urgently dispatched armored vehicles, armed helicopters, and special forces. Representatives of the head of government were en route, and six fighter jets took off from a nearby military base. Reporters from major media outlets were also rushing to the scene. Thus, the city became the focus of global attention.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan walked forward, completely ignoring the police. Strangely, seven- or eight-meter-tall pistols followed them like shadows. Police and pedestrians scattered as if they'd encountered two monsters, but curious onlookers continued to follow them. For some unknown reason, perhaps out of amusement, people were astonished to find that as the two walked, their feet suddenly left the ground, rising into the air, completely ignoring the planet's gravity, and moving slowly through the air!
"Look, aliens!" people exclaimed.
Zhou Yuan's target was the city hall square. He thought to himself, since things had escalated so much, he might as well act without restraint. Wei Shan, the beautiful woman, also found it amusing, a smile playing on her lips.
Ten minutes later, Zhou Yuan saw a tall monument in the city hall square, then stopped at the top of the monument, sat cross-legged, and uttered "Amitabha".
Wei Shan also said "Amitabha" and sat down cross-legged with Zhou Yuan.
These two people give the impression of devout believers preaching.
"Brother Zhou, you really came up with this idea! It's really fun."
"Fun, isn't it? Hehe, I wonder what Commander George will think. Let's go crazy today."
Wei Shan laughed and nodded, "Okay. The commander should be fine; he respects his elder brother."
Zhou Yuan smiled. The two noticed that more and more people were gathering in the square, with people from all directions of the city flocking there to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event.
The city's traffic immediately came to a standstill. The square was packed with people, making it impossible for armored forces to get in. Special forces had already arrived and were deployed and waiting in various parts of the square.
Several armed helicopters circled overhead, repeatedly broadcasting through loudspeakers, "Martial law is in effect throughout the city. Please go home immediately."
The human wall formed by the police could not stop the curious people at all.
"This is the last warning. Please leave immediately, or we will use all available force to disperse you."
The crowd was huge, but no one could squeeze out; the area was completely blocked off.
The helicopter flew to the periphery of the crowd and then dropped tear gas into the crowd on the periphery.
People panicked and fled in panic.
Zhou Yuan couldn't bear it, so he waved his hand, and the helicopters suddenly disappeared. There was another commotion in the crowd, but it quickly quieted down, and the people who had been dispersed from the periphery turned back to continue watching.
In the distance, six fighter jets roared over, and not far away, a luxury helicopter carrying representatives of the government head also arrived at the square.
Because Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan were sitting cross-legged atop the monument's spire, there was no one within a 50-meter radius of the monument. The luxury helicopter arrived at the square, then stopped near the monument, lowered several people using a rope ladder, and landed them on the open ground before departing the square.
"May I ask your names?" A well-dressed middle-aged man holding a megaphone called out from below.
The two descended slowly from the top of the monument, stopping on the higher steps, still sitting cross-legged in mid-air. Many people's view was obstructed, and the crowd shoved each other violently again, trying to squeeze in, but they simply couldn't move.
Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan had not expected this situation.
Okay, might as well go all the way and be a good person, Zhou Yuan thought to himself.
The middle-aged man holding the megaphone suddenly felt his legs slip and his body rise into the air. His subordinates were terrified and tried to grab him, but it was too late.
The three of them climbed together to the top of the monument. The onlookers finally breathed a sigh of relief and suddenly burst into thunderous applause.
"May I ask your names?" the middle-aged man asked directly, facing the two men.
Zhou Yuan pointed to the loudspeaker in the middle-aged man's hand.
The middle-aged man understood and picked up the megaphone, asking, "May I ask your names?"
"My name is Zhou Yuan, and this beautiful lady is named Wei Shan." Wei Shan blushed, but she was secretly delighted.
Zhou Yuan's voice startled the middle-aged man, and the onlookers were also surprised. His voice was even louder than the sound coming from a loudspeaker, and it wasn't off-key at all!
Those outside the venue were extremely busy, immediately connecting to the internet to search globally for Zhou Yuan and Wei Shan.
The middle-aged man was taken aback. Immediately, a voice came through the listening device he was wearing, "Commander Jess, we couldn't find these two people."
"Hello, my name is Jess, and I am the Secretary of State of this country. May I ask where you are from?"
"We come from Earth."
To Jess's disappointment, the voice came again, "Sir, we don't know either."
Jess angrily removed the listening device.
"Earth? What kind of place is that?"
"A place about 2000 light-years away from you."
As soon as Zhou Yuan said this, everyone exclaimed "Ah!" 2000 light-years! What a concept that was! They couldn't even imagine it; it was too far away.
"So how did you get here?"
"God noticed something was wrong with this world, so God sent us here to find out the truth." Zhou Yuan knew that for human civilization, as long as they were associated with God, communication would be much smoother, and they wouldn't offend the human civilization they had just come into contact with.
Although Jess did not believe in God, he did not explicitly express his opposition or aversion.
Those who believe in God cannot help but bow their heads in prayer.
"Something's wrong with this world? There's nothing unusual about it."
"You launched that detector, didn't you?"
"Yes, we launched it 410 years ago."
"Did you or other countries launch any other similar probes after that?"
"No."
"why?"
"The launch failed, and it will inexplicably crash."
"Hmm, is that so?"
"Yes."
"I need to meet with your country's head of state."
"Well... I will convey your wishes to President Hollande. But may I ask why?"
“I suggest you take back that probe. I’m doing this for the sake of your entire human civilization.”
"Retrieve the detector? How is that possible? We can't retrieve it."
"Don't worry about that, I can handle it. I'm just respecting your wishes; after all, it's the probe you launched."
"Then why recall the detector?"
"Because this probe could very well bring disaster upon your entire planet's civilization."
Jess was shocked. Was it that serious?
