Chapter 198: Unable to Contact
Chapter 198: Unable to Contact
Uncle Luo gestured for the three men to put down their iron bars. "Dole, my name is Roman. What's the situation outside?"
"Brother Luo, outside..."
"What's going on outside?" Linghu Guang asked urgently.
“Outside, outside is hell on earth.” Dore’s face showed both pain and anger.
What exactly is happening outside?
"The streets are littered with corpses shot by robots and mechs; the capital has fallen."
"What?" No one could believe it. Could human armed forces really be so vulnerable in the face of aliens?
Dora seemed to have guessed what everyone was thinking. "Gentlemen, human weapons are all technological creations. All those electronic devices are useless against Martians. How can we fight them? It's practically a massacre."
"Then what do we do? We can't just sit here and wait to die, can we? The food and water here will only last us for three days," a man said dejectedly.
"Don't worry, brother, there's definitely a way," Uncle Luo comforted him. "I'm a veteran, I'll protect you, trust me."
Hearing what Uncle Luo said, the group became happy, and Dora couldn't help but glance at Uncle Luo a few times.
“Dole, now that we’re partners, I don’t think you’d abandon them, would you? Look at those kids.” Uncle Luo pointed to five children. “They’re still young. For their sake, we must fight to the end and forge a path through the bloodshed.”
Although Dore admired Uncle Luo's courage, Uncle Luo's combat power was child's play compared to his own. Unless he used tricks and cunning, he was no match for those robots and mechs. Moreover, he had to lead thirteen ordinary people through the chaos, which was simply impossible.
Dora pondered for a long time, thinking of a solution. First, of course, was sufficient food and water, which he could probably get from the supermarket. Second, he needed to figure out how to avoid the alien forces on the ground and in the air, such as flying saucers, mechanical scorpions, robots, and mechs. It seemed that going underground was the only option. Third, where could these people go if they left this place? This was a big problem. However, if they didn't leave and find a safe place, staying here would definitely mean certain death if they were discovered.
Dore suddenly felt a pang of fear as he thought of someone—Zhou Yuan. Unfortunately, when he tried to call him earlier, the call was no longer going through.
“I think of someone who could save us, but I can’t get in touch with him.”
"Who?"
"Zhou Yuan. Another superhuman."
"Zhou Yuan?" Linghu Guang glanced at Duo Lai reflexively, his face lighting up with excitement. "The Zhou Yuan you're talking about, is he the tall, handsome guy, about 1.86 meters tall, who likes to smile?"
"Yes, it should be him. Young master, do you also know Zhou Yuan?"
"Yes, I am his good friend, Linghu Guang. This is my Uncle Luo, and this is my little sister, Linghu Ying."
"Brother Duo, do you know President Zhou too?" Linghu Ying stood up, hoping Duo Lai would tell her more information.
"Mr. Zhou?"
"Don't you know? He's the president of the famous high-tech company GenAI. Didn't you see the video of that intelligent robot online?"
Dolai seemed stunned, his eyes vacant as he stared blankly at Linghu Guang.
"Dore, what's wrong?" Uncle Luo noticed that Dore was acting strangely.
"Brother Luo, Young Master Linghu, let me ask you, if someone combines high technology with powerful superpowers, what do you think he would be?"
No one knew what Dora meant by asking that question. A man next to him replied, "What else could he be? He's a god."
Dore's body trembled slightly.
"Togo, you don't mean Zhou Yuan..."
“Brother, didn’t I just say that Zhou Yuan is also a superhuman?”
Linghu Guang then remembered that Dolai had indeed said, "What superpowers does he have? I really don't know. We only know that the company he runs has amazing technological capabilities."
Dore was silent for two minutes. "You can't even imagine Zhou Yuan's superpowers."
Uncle Luo looked at Dore with suspicion as he hesitated. "Really? I don't believe he's that powerful. Can he travel around the Earth at the speed of light and turn back time like Superman?"
"Brother Luo, Superman is just a movie. But if I told you that Zhou Yuan was the one who turned the sun on and off more than a hundred times this morning, would you believe me?"
This time, Uncle Luo, Linghu Guang, Linghu Ying, and the others were dumbfounded.
"How could that be? Brother Togo, don't talk nonsense." Linghu Ying seemed angry.
“Miss Linghu, I’m not lying to you. I was with Zhou Yuan this morning, along with his two wives. I personally witnessed Zhou Yuan display his powerful superpowers. The sun was like a toy in his hands, being turned on and off by him more than 120 times.”
"Two ladies? Aren't they his personal secretary and bodyguard?" Linghu Ying retorted to Dolai.
When Zhou Yuan introduced them, he said they were his two wives.
"Hmph, this guy." Linghu Ying couldn't help but feel annoyed.
"Little sister, if what Brother Togo said is true, I advise you to stay away from him."
Linghu Guang was also inexplicably annoyed; he never expected Zhou Yuan to have superpowers.
"Brother, I want to see what kind of person he really is."
“Young master, young lady, please stop arguing. If what Dora says is true, and today’s disaster was caused by Zhou Yuan, I suspect the Martians launched their attack on Earth today because of the sun. The Martians probably want to wipe out the entire human race. Isn’t someone with superpowers extremely dangerous? People with special abilities are probably also targets for the Martians to eliminate. Dora, don’t you think so?”
Uncle Luo's reasoning was reasonable, and Dora nodded.
"Uncle Luo, the GenAI Corporation building has been destroyed by the alien mothership. Zhou Yuan, is he likely to survive?"
"What?" Dore was taken aback.
Linghu Guang told Dolai what he had seen from the helicopter.
"Heh, I don't think Zhou Yuan will die easily. His superpowers are terrifying."
"Dole, you just said there's someone who can save us, is he the one you're talking about?"
"Yes, Uncle Luo, but I can't get in touch with him right now."
"It's impossible to get in touch with him; I can't even get through to him even though my phone is broken."
"Let's stop talking about this now and quickly find a safe place."
Uncle Luo remained calm. "Dole, you'll have to work hard this time. Here's my plan. If everyone agrees, we'll act immediately." Uncle Luo explained his plan, and everyone indicated they had no objections.
Dora exchanged a few words with Uncle Luo, and then went out.
About an hour later, Dore returned carrying two large bags. The children were overjoyed. The bags were almost entirely filled with food and drink. The other large bag contained a flashlight, a radio, a radio, ropes, knives, and other items.
After putting down the two large bags, Dora went out again.
Uncle Luo and Linghu Guang moved the radio and receiver to the basement exit. Uncle Luo spent a long time testing the receiver, but there was no human broadcast. He then tested the radio and suddenly remembered a military channel, so he tuned in to try it. "This is retired Air Force Colonel Roman, officer ID number AF197306050324. There are 15 people trapped here. The address is the basement of Rongfen Financial Building, No. 80 Changcheng Avenue. Please respond. Please respond." The radio emitted a buzzing noise, but there was no response. Uncle Luo called again, but still no response.
Uncle Luo called at intervals, but two hours passed without a response. During this time, Dore went out twice, each time carrying two large bags filled with food and drinks.
Uncle Luo called out every half hour. It seemed like it was getting dark, and Uncle Luo checked his watch; it was already six o'clock in the afternoon.
"Hello, is anyone there?" Suddenly, a woman's voice came through the radio.
"Professor Huo, is that you?" Linghu Guang rushed to the radio station.
"Linghu Guang?"
"Yes. Professor Huo, where are you?"
"I was in the basement of the research facility. It was terrifying. The research facility was destroyed, and only I and four colleagues escaped the disaster."
"Professor Huo, please be quiet and listen to me," Uncle Luo shouted into the radio. "Do you have any more high-powered communication equipment over there?"
"A high-powered one? We should be able to find one that works." A man's voice came from behind, probably one of Huo Jing's colleagues.
"How much longer can you hold on?"
"About two days."
"Here's what we'll do: find a high-powered communication device that you can use, and then come over here under the cover of darkness. We have plenty of food and drink here." Linghu Guang gave Huo Jing the detailed address.
"Alright, Young Master Linghu, we are about twelve kilometers apart, and it will probably take us four hours to get there."
"It's okay, we'll wait for you. Be careful on the road."
"it is good."
Everyone ate, drank, and rested, waiting for Huo Jing and the others to arrive. With the high-powered communication equipment, Uncle Luo was able to call the military's communication channel again. Perhaps the radio station's power was insufficient when he contacted them earlier.
It was already dark, and no one dared to turn on the lights. They used the faint light from their cell phones to illuminate the way when needed.
Dora went out three more times under the cover of darkness, each time returning with two large bags of food. Fortunately, there was a large supermarket nearby, otherwise these people would have had difficulty surviving.
There were six grown men in the basement. They discussed and divided the duties for the night shift. Uncle Luo and another man took turns on guard duty, while the rest rested and slept.
Uncle Luo anxiously looked at his watch; it was almost 10:30 p.m., and Professor Huo Jing and the others still hadn't arrived.
Twenty minutes passed, and Uncle Luo's spirits lifted because he could hear footsteps outside, though they were very light.
Uncle Luo gently nudged Dolai. Dolai seemed very tired today and had already fallen asleep. With this push, Dolai suddenly woke up, holding a long dagger in his hand. Uncle Luo took two steps back.
"Dole, there are footsteps outside. Let's go see if it's Professor Huo Jing."
Dora nodded, stood up, and gripped his long dagger tightly. Uncle Luo picked up an iron rod as well. "Brother, we're going out to check things out. We'll be right back. Keep an eye on them. Call us if anything happens." The uncle nodded.
Dora was in front, and Uncle Luo was behind. The two of them moved slowly up the steps.
Dore had excellent eyesight; he walked steadily even in the dark.
After leaving the basement, the two peeked out from the corner and saw two women and three men fiddling with a piece of equipment in the living room.
Uncle Luo looked at the street outside the hall again, and what he saw made him feel disgusted. The street was littered with piles of corpses.
Uncle Luo couldn't bear to look directly at them and shifted his gaze to the five people.
"Is this Professor Huo Jing?" Uncle Luo slowly walked out and asked softly.
"Are you Uncle Luo?" A beautiful woman wearing red-rimmed glasses turned around and asked softly.
"Yes. You guys get to work first. We'll talk later."
The five people were working together to set up the equipment, assembling each module. When Uncle Luo saw this high-powered communication device, he was overjoyed. This big guy even had a large dish antenna.
