Chapter 66 Watching the Sunrise with Cheng Ning
Chapter 66 Watching the Sunrise with Cheng Ning
Although Cheng Ning felt that her sisters were exaggerating, she still agreed with one point in her heart: as she gradually came to understand the world.
Lu Ran can be by my side.
And so, Cheng Ning kept this matter in mind.
I waited for two days.
Cheng Ning finally saw sunny weather.
Today her eyesight has improved even more. Standing in front of the bathroom mirror, she can vaguely see her own reflection if she gets close enough.
Apart from the occasional distortion of objects which is a little uncomfortable, everything else is fine.
From today onwards, she can be considered to have truly recovered from being blind to being a normal person.
The clear weather seemed to rejoice at her regained sight.
After washing up, Cheng Ning changed into new clothes, combed her hair, put on goggles, and walked out of the room to the opposite side.
After hesitating for a moment, she reached out and knocked on Lu Ran's door.
"Hmm, it's here."
It was still early, and Lu Ran hadn't gotten up yet.
Rubbing his eyes, he opened the door and saw Cheng Ning, who was dressed neatly.
"Aha..."
Lu Ran yawned and checked the time.
"It's only 5:10. I was wondering why it wasn't light yet."
Cheng Ning said softly, "I'm sorry to have disturbed your rest."
Lu Ran smiled and pulled her into the house.
"It's okay, you told me yesterday, so I went to bed early last night, it's fine."
Cheng Ning had been checking the weather forecast and knew that today was going to be sunny, so she asked Lu Ran a day in advance if he could get up early and go for a walk with her.
Cheng Ning knocked on the door early in the morning only after obtaining Lu Ran's consent.
Even though it was agreed beforehand, Cheng Ning was still a little afraid that Lu Ran would be unhappy if she woke him up at five o'clock.
Lu Ran cannot read minds.
Naturally, no one would expect Cheng Ning to be thinking about so many things, and to be so careful about these little details for fear of offending him.
Lu Ran pulled Cheng Ning to sit down in his gaming chair.
"Sit down for a bit, I'll go brush my teeth, wash my face, and change my clothes."
Cheng Ning nodded gently: "Okay."
Cheng Ning soon witnessed how fast the boys could wash their faces and brush their teeth.
In less than five minutes, Lu Ran had already finished washing up and getting dressed.
Lu Ran stood in front of Cheng Ning and smiled, "How was it? I was quick, wasn't I?"
Cheng Ning pursed her lips and said, "Yes, it's very fast."
Lu Ran: ......
Lu Ran suddenly felt that something was off about what he was saying. Was he insulting himself?
Shaking his head to shake off these filthy thoughts, he walked out of the residential area with Cheng Ning.
Although it was still quite dark.
But there were streetlights everywhere on the road, and Lu Ran and Cheng Ning walked side by side on the street, chatting idly.
However, it's usually Lu Ran who asks the questions and Cheng Ning who answers.
Lu Ran: "Can you see the road now?"
Cheng Ning: "Yes, that's fine."
Lu Ran: "Then can you see what I look like?"
Cheng Ning: "Just get closer, and it will be fine."
Lu Ran: "So, what do you think of my looks?"
Cheng Ning blushed, pursed her lips, and lowered her head: "It looks good."
Lu Ran chuckled.
He then asked, "Where would you like to go? Just for a walk?"
Cheng Ning hesitated for a moment.
"Is there a place that's a bit higher up and has a better view?"
Lu Ran was somewhat puzzled upon hearing this.
"Isn't the house already quite tall?"
"I mean, a place where you can see the sunrise."
Lu Ran understood.
He then reached out and grasped Cheng Ning's wrist: "I know there's a small hill at the elementary school two kilometers away where you can watch the sunrise."
Lu Ran pulled Cheng Ning along like this until they reached the foot of the hill.
"It's surrounded by walls."
The hill is within the elementary school grounds; to get up there, you have to go up from inside the school, but it's too early now, and there's nobody at the school.
Cheng Ning was a little disappointed and was about to suggest to Lu Ran that they change locations.
But Lu Ran had no intention of changing locations.
"This wall isn't high; you can just climb over it. I often pass by here, and many elementary school students climb over it."
Cheng Ning hesitated and said, "Isn't that a bad idea?"
"It's okay, we're not going in to do anything bad, we just need a place to watch the sunrise. Besides, they don't open until 6:30 at the earliest, by which time we'll have already finished watching."
After Lu Ran finished speaking, he squatted down, patted his legs, and said, "Come on, I'll take you up."
"But···"
Cheng Ning wanted to offer some advice, but she had only uttered two words when Lu Ran pulled her over and lifted her feet onto his thighs.
Lu Ran tried it and said, "No, this is a bit dangerous."
"How about I carry you up?"
Lu Ran originally wanted Cheng Ning to step on his legs so he could send her up the wall, but after thinking about it, he felt that it was a bit dangerous.
Although the wall isn't high in this spot, he would be heartbroken if Cheng Ning lost her grip and fell.
After saying that, Lu Ran turned his back to Cheng Ning, patted her shoulder and said, "Come on, I'll carry you up."
At this height, carrying a girl over him wouldn't be a problem.
Seeing that Cheng Ning didn't move, Lu Ran simply pulled her close to his back.
"You must hold on tight to me, or I won't be responsible if you fall."
Cheng Ning hugged Lu Ran tightly, still trying to persuade him: "This is not good. Why don't we wait for someone to come and ask?"
"Sunrise is around six o'clock, and by the time someone arrives, the daylilies will be cold."
Lu Ran had already grabbed the wall and used his right leg to straddle the top of the wall. Inside the wall was a large, flat-topped rock. Lu Ran placed Cheng Ning on the rock and then jumped down.
Then he reached out and lifted Cheng Ning off the rock, making sure she landed safely on the ground.
Even elementary school students can flip it easily, so if a grown man can't flip it, he might as well not live.
This wasn't how Cheng Ning had envisioned watching the sunrise together.
These outrageous things always made her feel guilty.
"This is really not good of us."
"Alright, alright, let's go up the mountain."
Lu Ran pretended not to hear and pulled Cheng Ning up the hill.
To prevent accidents involving students, even though there are clear warning signs prohibiting students from going up the hill, there are still guardrails installed at the top of the hill.
The two found the best spot with a good view and leaned against the railing to wait for the sunrise.
I didn't feel cold when I moved around; in fact, I felt a little warm.
But after standing still for a while, Lu Ran felt his hands getting cold.
He's cold, so Cheng Ning must be cold too.
Fortunately, a ray of dawn appeared on the horizon not long after, followed by the rising sun, its golden light shining on their faces, which was very beautiful.
Lu Ran turned to Cheng Ning: "Are your eyes alright?"
Even with goggles on, Cheng Ning still felt uncomfortable looking directly at the sunlight and looked away after just one glance.
Cheng Ning shook her head: "It's nothing."
The two stood there silently for a while.
Lu Ran looked at the rising sun and smiled, "It's beautiful."
Cheng Ning nodded: "Yes, it is beautiful."
This was the first time she had seen the sunrise in many years, and she was filled with countless thoughts, but she didn't know where to begin.
Lu Ran turned to look at her: "It's the same as you."
Cheng Ning dared not meet Lu Ran's gaze and lowered her head shyly.
A short while later, Cheng Ning took a small mirror out of her pocket.
He lifted it up, aimed it in the right direction, and reflected the rising sun onto the ground before slowly moving it into Lu Ran's hand.
Lu Ran chuckled and grabbed the sun in his hand: "You still like playing like this?"
Cheng Ning did not answer, but silently continued the same action.
He said she was like the sun.
She then placed the sun in his hands, hoping that he would hold her forever and never let go.
