Chapter 357: The Headless Body Ran
Chapter 357: The Headless Body Ran
The captain barely registered what was going on when he saw a crimson light flash from the corner of his eyes.
’What is that?!’ he exclaimed in his mind.
Whoosh!
Ahhhh!
A sharp scream escaped from one of the guard’s throats. He held his neck, and his steps froze. Instantly, all the guards had their muscles tensed up, and fear gripped their hearts like a vice.
Thud!
With wide eyes, they saw their friend fall to the ground with a wet, sickening thud, blood splattering to the ground.
"What happened?" one of them screamed, unsheathing his sword with shaking hands.
Ahhhh!
He barely took a fighting stance when a sharp whistling sound echoed in his ear.
’T This...’
That was his last thought before he fell to the ground, darkness swallowing him whole. Seeing this, the remaining guards trembled, their breathing ragged.
Fear gnawed at their hearts.
Their eyes shifted back and forth, searching for the attacker hiding in the empty street.
"T There..." one of them shouted.
Hmm?
Instantly, the captain turned sharply, gripping his spear tightly. Turning his head, he saw the crimson bolt rushing toward him at breathtaking speed.
’Too fast!’
’Danger!’
More importantly, he discovered the crimson bolts were not one but many.
"R Run..."
He could barely complete his statement when the crimson bolts appeared before them. All the hair on his body stood on end. Instinctively, he swung his spear in a wide arc.
He did not care what was attacking them. He was barely attacking on instinct.
Swish! Swish!
He did not complete the wide arc when he no longer felt his right arm. His heart skipped a beat, and he turned his head. His right arm was gone.
Lying on the ground was his arm, blood gushing out continuously.
Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhh!
The moment his brain registered what had just happened, an agonizing scream escaped from his throat.
"MY HAND!"
Bang! Bang!
While he was screaming, he heard two sounds coming from his back. Turning his head, he saw the last two members of his squad lying on the ground. Their heads were separated from their necks, with their arms severed.
The previously empty street was covered in blood and severed body parts.
He froze for a moment, but then his survival instinct kicked in.
’I need to flee.’
’I am done if I stay here.’
Under the adrenaline surge, his body was filled with surging power as he kicked the ground, dashing forward with incredible speed.
’I must return to the guild.’
’I cannot stay on the street.’
Various thoughts flashed through his mind. Despair and panic washed over him like a second skin. His lungs tightened as he pushed his speed to the limit.
Swish! Swish!
’What is that?’ he thought in puzzlement, only to realize his surroundings were being swallowed by darkness.
’What is happening?’
’Nooooo.’
Unknown to him, his head was flying in the air, rolling for a couple of seconds before gravity did its magic, crashing to the ground in a wet, sickening thud.
As for his body, the fear and panic made his body continue to run even after his head was gone. The headless body ran for a couple of feet before it crashed to the ground, blood flowing on the ground like a broken pipe.
Wiped out.
Complete slaughter.
From beginning to end, the complete slaughter of the guards took less than a minute. This once again proved the lethality of the undead Sanguine Vultures.
Without Peak Bronze Grade equipment to defend against their sneak attacks, anyone would be at their mercy. Without Thoren’s overpowering Awakened Soul, he would have fallen under their attack.
Their speed was terrifying.
Their movements were silent.
Their attacks were sharp, precise, and almost impossible to follow with ordinary eyes.
Standing on the roof, Thoren watched everything with the same calm expression.
"One down, three left," he muttered.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, he leapt into the air as if he was trying to commit suicide, but then he gracefully landed on the back of an undead Sanguine Vulture.
In a blink, his figure vanished from the area, leaving no traces behind.
Five minutes after his departure, a miserable scream echoed on the street as people discovered the mutilated bodies on the ground.
Panic spread quickly.
Doors slammed shut.
Windows were closed in haste.
Humans and Sandroach that had been moving along the nearby road retreated at once, afraid they would become the next unlucky victims.
While many were trying to understand what was going on, Thoren arrived at the northern part of the town. The Slave Trade Guild hideout was in the south, among the ordinary, dilapidated houses.
But the northern lane housed the Sandroach species.
A place only a few humans dared to step into.
Standing on the highest building in the area, Thoren looked at the ground and noticed something. Sandroach were beating humans and had leashes around their necks.
Seeing this, Thoren was no longer surprised.
As long as the Slave Trade Guild controlled a town, this was their usual behavior. They would not hesitate to use their fellow humans as bargaining chips to have control of the town.
Shaking his head, he did not think about the situation and focused his attention on his target.
The patrolling guards.
"There you are..." he whispered, a sharp glint flashing deep in his pupils.
On the street, miserable screams from the human slaves echoed in the air, while the eerie laughter of the Sandroach men echoed on the street as they dragged their pets forward.
The Slave Trade Guild guards patrolled the street, ignoring the inhuman actions of the Sandroach men. It was as if it had nothing to do with them.
Some among them even had cold sneers on their faces.
To them, those wearing chains were no longer people.
They were goods.
They were tools.
They were bargaining chips used to keep the Sandroach satisfied.
Suddenly, they halted their tracks as a feeling of danger washed over them. The guard captain, a woman, frowned. She opened her mouth, ready to speak, when she froze.
