Chapter 54 I think I saw you
Chapter 54 I think I saw you
Even on holidays, she cannot refuse her boss's calls.
Lin Xi swiped to answer the call: "Hello, President Duan."
Duan Yiheng choked: "It's not working hours now."
Lin Xi remembered that he was away on a business trip and hadn't returned, so she asked, "Then why did you call me?"
"Any fun things to do in Rong County? The hotel staff highly recommend Dachuo Lake, a 5A-level scenic spot in Rong County."
Lin Xi: "...It's better not to come. There's nothing fun about it, just a few bare ships."
"Then what should we do?" Duan Yiheng asked in a slightly somber tone. "I'm already here."
"You're in Rong County?" Lin Xi was taken aback.
"Ah."
Lin Xi: "..."
Duan Mingxuan left, and Duan Yiheng came.
"I think I... saw you."
Lin Xi subconsciously replied, "What?"
Duan Yiheng said on the phone, "Turn around and look across the street."
Lin Xi turned around, and a tall bus slowly drove past in front of her. Through the gaps in the traffic, she saw Duan Yiheng on the other side of the road.
"Where's Assistant Qin? Why are you alone?" Lin Xi asked on the phone.
“He went back first.” Duan Yiheng said without batting an eye. “Assistant Qin has a girlfriend. He finally got a vacation, so naturally he had to go back to be with her.”
Lin Xi: "Then why didn't you go back?"
Duan Yiheng: "Didn't I say I was tricked into coming here?"
Lin Xi was unsure whether to believe it or not.
But since the person was already there, she couldn't just send them away, so she said, "Then come over here, let's go have dinner together?"
"it is good."
Duan Yiheng crossed the road and his gaze fell on Lin Xi.
The weather in the south is relatively warm, so she wore a white dress with a long cardigan over it.
Her black hair fell down, covering her collarbone, and her slender waist beneath her white dress seemed too delicate to be grasped.
She stood there like a delicate bouquet of jasmine flowers, exuding a youthful fragrance with every gesture.
Seeing that he hadn't moved for a while, Lin Xi nudged his arm and asked, "What are you spacing out for?"
"It's nothing," Duan Yiheng said, calming his racing heart.
"What do you want to eat?" Lin Xi asked. "But let's make it clear first, this is a county town, nothing fancy here."
Duan Yiheng said, "I'm a guest, so I'll go with whatever the host says."
Alright, Lin Xi led him around for a long time, and finally found a barbecue restaurant by the roadside.
The environment is quite interesting; it has been transformed into a two-story farmhouse courtyard, filled with wooden tables and decorated with colorful lanterns.
"It looks pretty good," Lin Xi said as she walked inside. "I just don't know what the environment is like."
Duan Yiheng had never been to a place like this before. He quietly followed Lin Xi and sat down in a corner of the courtyard wall.
A short while later, a young man in black overalls came out to serve them.
Lin Xi ordered a table full of food, and Duan Yiheng didn't spoil her fun.
The evening breeze was pleasant, the liquor was strong, and Duan Yiheng knew she was feeling down.
"I think I promised you I wouldn't drink like this," Lin Xi smiled.
“Tonight is an exception,” Duan Yiheng said. “If you’re unhappy, then drink.”
Lin Xi stared at him: "Can you eat this?"
Duan Yiheng: "Mu Zhao once hosted a lakeside barbecue at my club."
It must be very interesting; Lin Xi was intrigued just listening to it.
She handed one of the cans of beer to Duan Yiheng: "It would be a waste not to drink it."
Duan Yiheng took it, pulled the ring, and handed it to her.
"Thank you." Lin Xi handed him another can of beer.
Duan Yiheng doesn't like beer, so he didn't touch the tab.
Lin Xi took a sip, frowned, and smacked her lips. It wasn't particularly delicious, nor was it particularly bad; it was just acceptable.
After downing half a beer, Lin Xi praised, "Assistant Qin is such a nice person."
Duan Yiheng: "..."
Why bring him up all of a sudden?
“He’s very good to his girlfriend,” Lin Xi said.
Duan Yiheng took Lin Xi's beer away and said, "Don't mix fruit wine and beer."
"It's nothing." Lin Xi reached out to grab it. "I didn't drink much fruit wine either."
"Where's Duan Mingxuan?" Duan Yiheng tilted his head back and finished the rest of her beer in a few gulps.
Lin Xi was dumbfounded: "You really made a huge sacrifice, drinking what I left over just so I wouldn't have to drink it."
Duan Yiheng wiped his mouth: "You're deliberately avoiding the topic."
Lin Xi's smile froze slightly: "Didn't you see him when you came?"
Duan Yiheng said, "I didn't see it."
“He’s gone,” Lin Xi said.
Duan Yiheng: "He left you here all alone?"
"No, not really." Lin Xi's smile was more like a grimace. "After all, he had urgent business, and what I have here isn't a big deal. I can manage on my own."
Duan Yiheng handed her a tissue: "Then why are you crying?"
"Then why did you ask?" Lin Xi's nose stung with tears, and she grabbed a tissue. "Didn't you ask? I didn't cry when he left, I cried because of you."
Duan Yiheng laughed in exasperation: "You only have this much temper of yours, and you use it all on me."
Lin Xi felt inexplicably guilty and looked up at him, saying, "Who told you to keep asking?"
"Then you cried, did you feel much better?" Duan Yiheng's tone softened suddenly.
Lin Xi nodded and asked, "Where are you staying tonight?"
Duan Yiheng: "I booked a room at a nearby hotel, I guess I'll be staying in the same place as you."
Lin Xi countered, "How did you know we were staying at the same hotel?"
Duan Yiheng gave her an ambiguous look: "You came with Duan Mingxuan, would you let him stay in a low-end hotel?"
Lin Xi vehemently denied it: "That's not necessarily true. I stay in high-end hotels when I come here myself."
"The cemetery is in the north of the city, and this is in the south," Duan Yiheng stated directly. "Under smooth conditions, it will take forty minutes to drive here."
Lin Xi remained silent. If she had returned on her own, she would have gone directly to a hotel in the north of the city.
They couldn't talk any longer; Lin Xi felt that Duan Yiheng had seen right through her.
She got up to pay the bill, and Duan Yiheng didn't stop her.
The shop owner gave her a bottle of Wahaha as a gift.
Lin Xi inserted the straw and took a sip.
She turned to look at Duan Yiheng: "Let's walk back."
Duan Yiheng followed her out of the barbecue yard.
The two walked slowly along the roadside, and Lin Xi threw the empty Wahaha bottle into the trash can.
"I'm so full," Lin Xi muttered softly.
Duan Yiheng: "Even if I were dead, you wouldn't have shared a single bite with me."
Lin Xi knew he was joking, so she went along with it and said, "I'm rather possessive of my food."
"So, Miss who's been hoarding her food, are you feeling any better?" Duan Yiheng asked. "If you're still not feeling better, I wouldn't mind walking around with you a couple more times."
Lin Xi: "No, thank you. I need to go to the cemetery tomorrow."
"Shall I come with you?" Duan Yiheng tried to sound natural. "Since you're already here..."
As a Chinese person, it is impossible to refuse these four words.
Lin Xi herself did not expect that the person accompanying her to pay respects would change from Duan Mingxuan to Duan Yiheng.
"Okay, thank you for keeping me company."
Duan Yiheng smiled and followed her into the hotel.
His room was two floors above Lin Xi's, and the two said goodbye in the elevator.
After entering the room, Lin Xi sent a message to Duan Mingxuan, saying that she had returned to the hotel.
But Duan Mingxuan didn't reply; he's probably still on the plane.
Lin Xi took a shower and forced herself to sleep, but her aching stomach made her toss and turn.
Feeling nauseous but unable to vomit, and feeling bloated, Lin Xi got out of bed and paced back and forth in the room.
About ten minutes later, she was covered in sweat and her stomach hurt even more.
Her phone vibrated on the bedside table. She leaned over the bed and struggled to reach it. It was a message from Duan Yiheng, saying that he had booked a private car service for tomorrow.
Lin Xi held the voice message button, and in her weakness, she unconsciously called out the affectionate term again: "Big brother, my stomach hurts."
