Chapter 233 Carrying you upstairs isn't tiring
Duan Yiheng carried Lin Xi inside, feeling that even the bright lights along the streets on the way back couldn't compare to the light at home.
Hearing the commotion, Sister Mei came out of her room. Duan Yiheng caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye and quickly gave her a look that said, "Go back."
If she were to come out and ask all sorts of questions, given their shameless behavior, Lin Xi would be mortified.
After climbing the stairs, Duan Yiheng patted Lin Xi on the lower back: "Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Lin Xi hugged him and whispered, "I promised Sister Mei I would go to sleep at 12 o'clock, but who knew you would come back right then."
Duan Yiheng carried her up to the third floor, and Lin Xi swung her legs: "Are you tired?"
Duan Yiheng laughed and said, "It's tiring to deal with a bunch of people at the company, but it's not tiring to carry you upstairs."
Once inside the bedroom, Duan Yiheng pinned Lin Xi to the bed and then remained still.
His warm breath brushed against Lin Xi's neck. Lin Xi touched his short hair, knowing he was very tired.
"Go take a shower first," Lin Xi said gently. "Would you like some late-night snacks?"
"I'm not eating anymore." Duan Yiheng buried his face in her neck and said, "Could you get me some clothes?"
"Okay." Lin Xi agreed immediately. "Get up first, you're squashing me."
Duan Yiheng turned his head and kissed Lin Xi on the ear: "I'm going to the bathroom first."
Lin Xi got up and belatedly realized that Duan Yiheng had gone to her bathroom.
Are you planning to sleep here tonight?
Lin Xi went to get him pajamas, and when she got his underwear, she was too embarrassed to look at it, so she just wrapped it up in the pajamas.
Lin Xi didn't knock and went straight into the bathroom, saying, "I brought your clothes, I left them outside."
Duan Yiheng had just turned off the water, so he grabbed a bath towel, wrapped it up casually, and came out.
Seeing this, Lin Xi blushed and left the bathroom.
Just a few minutes after I lay down on the bed, Duan Yiheng came over.
Lin Xi looked at him through the blanket and silently paced inside.
Duan Yiheng smiled as he got into bed and lay down next to Lin Xi.
Lin Xi gave a small snort: "He clearly wants to sleep here, but he doesn't say anything and just stares at me."
"Come here." Duan Yiheng grabbed Lin Xi's waist and pulled her into his arms. "Although I didn't say it, you gave me your seat."
Lin Xi: "That's because I'm tired of watching you."
"Having a girlfriend is great," Duan Yiheng chuckled. "There's someone who cares about you."
Lin Xi cupped his face and rubbed it: "I want to visit Grandma tomorrow, are you coming?"
Duan Yiheng: "I'll come over to have dinner with you guys after get off work tonight. When are you coming?"
“Since you’ve said so, let’s do it this afternoon. I’ll have lunch with Grandpa,” Lin Xi said.
Duan Yiheng responded in a deep voice and closed his eyes.
Lin Xi rarely stayed up later than Duan Yiheng when she slept with him at night.
Normally, Duan Yiheng would only go to sleep after she had fallen asleep.
Today, after only a few words exchanged, Duan Yiheng fell asleep.
Lin Xi lay in his arms, in a position that was somewhat uncomfortable.
But she was afraid of waking Duan Yiheng, so she stubbornly refrained from moving.
When I woke up the next day, half of my body was numb.
On the other side of the bed, there was only emptiness and coldness.
Lin Xi paused for a moment, then slipped on her slippers and went downstairs.
Just as Sister Mei was about to go upstairs to wake her up, she saw her and hurriedly said, "You're up? Come and have breakfast."
Lin Xi glanced towards the restaurant: "Where is he?"
"The gentleman left early this morning," Sister Mei said. "But he said he left after having breakfast, so don't worry."
Lin Xi wasn't quite used to Sister Mei calling Duan Yiheng "Mr." She smiled and said, "I'm going to the North Courtyard for lunch, I'll go out for a bit this afternoon, and I'll come back with him tonight."
Sister Mei responded, "You keep calling me 'he, he, he' all the time, it's not good. Just call me by my name or 'Big Brother,' it's the same thing, it's just a form of address."
Lin Xi was embarrassed for a moment: "He probably doesn't like me calling him 'Big Brother'."
"Then just call me by my name. Call me that a few times, and you'll get used to it," Sister Mei suggested.
Lin Xi nodded; she would try her best.
In order not to expose her secret in front of Sister Mei, she always called Duan Yiheng "Big Brother" in front of her.
Now that she has changed her tune, it's not just a matter of saying a few words; it signifies a shift in her status.
Lin Xi ate slowly and deliberately. After finishing his meal, he strolled around the courtyard twice. Around ten o'clock, he suddenly received a message from Sun Wenxin.
She asked: Secretary Lin, aren't you coming to work?
Lin Xi replied: Go ahead, but the elderly at home aren't in good health, and you all probably know what happened at the company. President Duan has other plans.
Sun Wenxin: I thought you weren't going to continue. May I ask if you have any other arrangements? Are you going to work at headquarters as Mr. Duan's secretary?
Lin Xi: Probably not.
Sun Wenxin sent her a fawning emoji: I was so scared! I thought the powerful figure I'd finally managed to latch onto was gone.
Lin Xi was amused by her and asked: How's the company doing lately?
Sun Wenxin: The internal announcement from the group has already been issued. It feels like the change of leadership is too far removed from us. People are discussing more about your relationship with General Manager Duan and Manager Chen's matter.
Lin Xi paused, holding her phone. Chen Jingyi hadn't been heard from since that day.
Given her vengeful nature, she would absolutely not let Ke Yu off the hook once she learned that Ke Yu was behind her mental illness.
But she didn't make a sound.
Just in case, she knew that Duan Yiheng had someone following Chen Jingyi, but there was no news from Duan Yiheng.
Has Chen Jingyi really resigned herself to her fate?
Lin Xi was somewhat skeptical; Chen Liangyi was like a wild weed, impossible to burn or irrigate.
She immediately ended her chat with Sun Wenxin, glanced at the time, and called Duan Yiheng.
Lin Xi knew Duan Yiheng was busy when he didn't answer.
About five minutes later, he came back.
When Lin Xi answered the phone, she heard Duan Yiheng ask, "What's wrong?"
Lin Xi asked, "Is Chen Jingyi accompanied by anyone?"
Duan Yiheng said, "Yes, why are you asking this?"
Lin Xi: "I was just asking casually. Logically speaking, she's not the kind of person who gives up so easily."
Duan Yiheng: "He might be plotting something bad."
Lin Xi: "We can't have someone following us forever, can we?"
“I’m still worried because she hasn’t left City B,” Duan Yiheng said. “I also want to know what will become of her and Ke Yu.”
Now that the conflict has shifted, it remains to be seen how Chen Jingyi will choose to proceed.
"I understand," Lin Xi said. "Don't forget to eat even if you're busy. I'm going to the North Courtyard to keep Grandpa company now."
Duan Yiheng responded and then hung up the phone.
Lin Xi had lunch with the old man at noon and noticed that he ate very little.
Lin Xi didn't ask in front of the old man, but instead asked Uncle Deng.
Uncle Deng said, "He said he had no appetite, and when I suggested we go to the hospital, he actually got angry."
Lin Xi was genuinely surprised: "He even threw a tantrum?"
Uncle Deng: "He might be in a bad mood. Don't worry too much. I'll be with you the whole time."
Lin Xi knew that Uncle Deng had done his best for the old man, and she trusted him, so she nodded: "Grandpa, thank you for your hard work. I have to go out tonight. Please tell Grandpa that I will have dinner with him again tomorrow."
Uncle Deng: "Okay."
Before going to the alley, Lin Xi went to the flower shop first.
It's impolite to visit empty-handed. The old lady has everything she needs, but she loves flowers.
The old lady was a little surprised to see her come alone. After learning that Duan Yiheng would arrive soon, she and Lin Xi arranged the flowers and then turned and went into the kitchen to busy themselves.
Lin Xi went in to help and worked for more than an hour, producing four dishes and a soup.
Around seven o'clock, Duan Yiheng still hadn't arrived. Just as Lin Xi was about to make a call, her phone rang.
Lin Xi answered happily, "Where are we?"
"I'm sorry, I can't go." Duan Yiheng's voice was low and soft. "You and Grandma eat first, and don't leave after you're done. I'll come pick you up."
Lin Xi was a little disappointed, but not much. Knowing that he was busy, she smiled and told him to go ahead and do his work.
