Chapter 202 Paternity Test
Chapter 202 Paternity Test
The next morning, Meng Huaishan was still asleep when he was woken up by a phone call from Duan Yiheng.
Just as he was about to curse, Duan Yiheng coldly said, "Help me investigate Duan Zheng's illegitimate daughter."
My drowsiness vanished instantly.
"What did you say?" Meng Huaishan couldn't believe his ears. "Your dad had a child outside of marriage?"
Duan Yiheng: "It's just a suspicion right now. I need you to help me find out more about this little girl and collect her sample for me to do a paternity test for Duan Zheng and Ke Yu."
Meng Huaishan: "How old is the child?"
Duan Yiheng: "I'm not quite sure, but Lin Xi described her as five or six years old."
Meng Huaishan: "A sister who's more than twenty years younger than me, I really... don't know what to say."
Duan Yiheng chuckled. He didn't care; it was Duan Mingxuan who should be the one exploding.
Duan Mingxuan had always been favored by Duan Zheng, so how could he not be driven crazy by the sudden appearance of such a little sister?
"Don't do the paternity test in City B. Ke Yu is definitely keeping an eye on me. I need the test report within a week."
Meng Huaishan: "You're really making things difficult for me. The identification is quick, but I have to find someone to collect samples?"
Duan Yiheng: "You only need to be in charge of Anqi. That's her name, but it's probably not her real name. She lives at Tianhong Hotel. That's all I know for now."
Meng Huaishan: "..."
Let him investigate even though you know nothing about it.
Half asleep, Lin Xi heard Duan Yiheng hang up the phone. She smiled and said, "How come Brother Meng has become so irritable because of you?"
Duan Yiheng chuckled and rubbed her neck with his fingertips: "He's grumpy when he wakes up."
"I'm pretty grumpy when I wake up too." Lin Xi slapped away the hand that was fidgeting around her neck. "Get off me, I'm getting up."
The warmer the weather, the earlier Lin Xi gets up.
It's only 6:30 now; Lin Xi doesn't start work until 9:00.
Duan Yiheng's eyes darkened, and he held her waist tightly, preventing her from moving: "There's time."
Lin Xi had been with him for a long time, and when his expression changed, she knew something was wrong.
Stared at by those deep, dark eyes, her heart skipped a beat: "I still have to go to work."
Her refusal wasn't firm, and Duan Yiheng seized the opportunity in her hesitant tone, pressing closer to her.
Lin Xi tilted her head, letting his breath brush against her neck.
The fabric was thin, as was her skin, making Lin Xi look more like a pink jelly.
Duan Yiheng took a bite, and it melted instantly.
For the first time ever, Lin Xi was late for work, arriving after nine o'clock. In her mind, she cursed Duan Yiheng over and over again.
Throughout the entire day, she maintained a cold expression; anyone who didn't know better would have thought she was Duan Yiheng's boss.
Duan Yiheng dared not say anything more.
After getting off work, Lin Xi rushed home immediately, but was stopped by an old lady who suddenly rushed over at the entrance of the park.
Lin Xi braked suddenly, but before she could get out of the car, the old lady came over and knocked on her car window.
Lin Xi was afraid it was a scam, and was about to make a call when she noticed the old lady holding up a piece of paper the size of her palm with Chen Jingyi's name written on it.
Lin Xi was taken aback, then rolled down the car window: "Who are you looking for?"
“I’m looking for Chen Jingyi. She works at this big company and I think she’s been promoted to manager.” The old lady said with a smug look on her face.
Lin Xi then asked, "Are you Manager Chen's...?"
“I am her mother,” the old lady said. “That brat won’t answer my calls, so I had no choice but to come to the company to find her.”
Lin Xi looked her up and down: "What do you want with her?"
The old lady said, "What else could it be but money?"
Lin Xi frowned. Although she didn't like Chen Liangyi, she had even less affection for the person in front of her who claimed to be Chen Liangyi's mother.
It's true that she wants to deal with Chen Jingyi, but it doesn't involve the other party's family. Lin Xi also has no intention of disgusting Chen Jingyi in such a way that hurts her self-esteem.
“There’s a research and development center inside, and a lot of things are kept secret,” Lin Xi threatened her. “If you get close, you’ll be arrested.”
The old lady subconsciously took two steps back, but her expression still showed disbelief.
Lin Xi pointed to the other side: "I advise you to wait on the other side. If you make a scene and run over there, the security guards won't care which employee's parent you are, they will just detain you and call the police."
The old lady was clearly intimidated, and she went to the other side, looking back every few steps.
Lin Xi then drove away.
As May arrived and the weather began to warm up, Lin Xi's work attire became much lighter, no longer consisting of dull black, white, and gray.
Seeing it every day made Duan Yiheng feel much better.
He took a sip of coffee when his phone rang. Meng Huaishan was inefficient; it had taken him a week to get the little girl's sample.
He picked up his phone and replied: Mail it as soon as possible.
Meng Huaishan: Seven days. There's one more thing. I've sent you Lin Xiaoying's background details to your email; she's somewhat related to Ke Yu.
Duan Yiheng told Lin Xi about this, and the news that they would have five days off for Labor Day made Lin Xi feel like every day was an eternity.
She didn't know what kind of outcome she was expecting; it was something that had nothing to do with her, yet she was suffering agonizingly while waiting.
Duan Yiheng tapped her on the head: "I knew I shouldn't have told you."
Lin Xi threw herself into his arms: "What did the email say?"
Duan Yiheng said, "Lin Xiaoying was once a student sponsored by Ke Yu."
"A student receiving financial aid?" Lin Xi was taken aback. "Then why wasn't it discovered before? Logically speaking, whether it's a foundation or a special scholarship, there should be records, right?"
Duan Yiheng: "It was a personal donation, nobody knew about it."
Lin Xi snorted: "Then what does Ke Yu mean?"
Duan Yiheng said, "Silly, it's a honey trap."
"That was the worst move she ever made," Lin Xi couldn't help but mutter.
Duan Yiheng chuckled: "I already told you, most men can't resist."
Lin Xi glanced at him sideways: "Lin Xiaoying is beautiful. Even I, a woman, feel a flutter in my heart when I see her. What was your first impression of her?"
Duan Yiheng smiled without saying a word, but Lin Xi grew impatient and grabbed his shoulder, shaking him: "Speak!"
Duan Yiheng said, "I've seen plenty of people who are more vigorous and beautiful than her, but to me, she's nothing."
He ignored everyone else, except for Lin Xi, who lingered inside.
Lin Xi wrapped her arms around Duan Yiheng's neck and rubbed against him.
Duan Yiheng put his arm around her back and said, "If you're really bored, how about we stay at North District No. 1 for a few days?"
Lin Xi liked the place very much and immediately nodded.
North District No. 1 has all kinds of entertainment. Lin Xi and Duan Yiheng stayed there for three days.
On the afternoon of the return trip, while still in the car, Duan Yiheng's phone rang.
Lin Xi's heart skipped a beat, guessing it was a paternity test report.
Meng Huaishan spoke for a while on the other end of the phone, but Lin Xi didn't hear it clearly.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Xi turned to Duan Yiheng and asked, "Was that Brother Meng calling? The results are in?"
Duan Yiheng looked at her and nodded: "The results are out, and they're on their way to be mailed."
Lin Xi asked, "Can I receive it tomorrow?"
Tomorrow is the last day of the holiday, and she asked Duan Yiheng, "Where should I send it?"
Duan Yiheng said, "It's inconvenient to send it to your home."
Lin Xi's heart jumped.
