Chapter 39: Leaving the City
Chapter 39: Leaving the City
Li Jingyang kept staring at Lin Rusi like that.
Lin Rusi looked around nervously, trying to forget that Li Jingyang was staring at her.
However, Li Jingyang's gaze was too direct, and she couldn't avoid it at all.
At this moment, Lin Rusi just wanted to find a hole to crawl into immediately. If Li Jingyang kept staring at her like that, he would stare her face until it was pierced through.
Just as Lin Rusi was feeling ashamed and didn't know how to face Li Jingyang.
Li Jingyang suddenly asked, "I'm leaving the city. Do you want to come with me?"
Lin Rusi winked at Li Jingyang, "Out of the city?"
She hesitated for a moment, then said firmly, "Okay."
After agreeing, Lin Rusi regretted it somewhat.
Why did she agree so inexplicably?
A promise is a promise, and having already agreed, Lin Rusi had no choice but to leave the city with Li Jingyang.
As the scenery flashed by outside the sedan chair, becoming increasingly unfamiliar, Lin Rusi lifted the curtain and stared outside for a long time.
From afar, she could see the buildings towering atop the mountains.
Lin Rusi frowned and stared intently for a while before suddenly realizing, "Isn't this the Royal Nunnery?"
Royal temples, as the name suggests, are places exclusively belonging to the royal family.
However, the people inside were either royal women who had become nuns or noble ladies who had made mistakes.
Li Jingyang looked into the distance and gave a nonchalant "hmm," saying, "I want to bring you to meet someone."
As Lin Rusi stepped down from the sedan chair, her heart pounded wildly.
She had heard that Li Jingyang's birth mother was imprisoned in the Royal Nunnery, but she never expected that Li Jingyang would bring her here directly.
Lin Rusi's mind was in a mess, and a buzzing sound filled her ears.
Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was about to leap out of her constricted chest.
She clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself down.
It's just meeting the parents, right?
Lin Rusi took a deep breath.
Her engagement to Li Jingyang was a last resort; she didn't care whether his mother liked it or not.
Lin Rusi kept comforting herself with this thought.
In reality, she still really wanted to win the favor of Li Jingyang's biological mother.
"Mother concubine."
Li Jingyang was walking ahead when he suddenly stopped.
He bowed respectfully to the woman standing not far away.
The woman was born with a plump and radiant figure, gentle eyes and brows, and exuded a gentle and approachable aura.
Lin Rusi paused, staring blankly at the woman.
The woman was dressed simply, but her every move exuded a noble and elegant air.
When the woman saw Li Jingyang, her smiling eyes sparkled.
She stepped forward and gently took Li Jingyang's hand. "Jingyang, are you not busy today?"
"Why did you suddenly decide to see me?"
Li Jingyang's expression softened as well.
He moved a step to the side, and only then did the woman notice Lin Rusi, who had been following behind Li Jingyang.
"And this is...?"
The woman looked Lin Rusi up and down and asked softly.
Li Jingyang introduced the woman: "Her name is Lin Rusi, she is the second young lady of the Lin family, and she is also my future wife."
The woman was clearly delighted. "I had heard about you from Xiao Jing before, and seeing you today, you are indeed a lovely girl."
Lin Rusi's cheeks flushed red after being praised by the woman.
She bowed awkwardly and nervously to the woman, and said softly, "I'm not a lovely person at all."
The woman laughed heartily, her gaze towards Lin Rusi now filled with even more affection.
"Not bad, not bad, standing next to Xiao Jing is simply a match made in heaven."
She gently took Lin Rusi's hand and then softly placed it in Li Jingyang's palm.
"Xiao Jing, I am very pleased to see that you have found such a wife."
She looked at Lin Rusi and pleaded, "Miss, I'm entrusting my little Jing to your care from now on."
Lin Rusi pursed her lips tightly, her cheeks and body burning red.
She nodded as if possessed, and said in a sweet voice, "Your Majesty, rest assured, I will do my best to take care of the Prince."
The woman laughed heartily, "Alright, alright, I won't bother you two young people any longer."
The woman kept giving Li Jingyang meaningful glances, saying, "Jingyang, take Rusi for a walk."
After saying that, the woman walked away.
Lin Rusi and Li Jingyang stood there, feeling ashamed.
After a moment of silence, Lin Rusi took a deep breath and carefully looked up at Li Jingyang.
"Your Highness, aren't you going to show me around?"
Coming to his senses, Li Jingyang nodded and began to stroll around the Royal Nunnery with Lin Rusi.
The azure sky was gradually dyed by the setting sun into a twilight of red, orange, green, blue, and purple, intertwining and enveloping the world like a net.
Li Jingyang walked slowly ahead, with Lin Rusi following behind him.
The setting sun cast long shadows on the two of them.
Lin Rusi and Li Jingyang walked through the Royal Nunnery, and Lin Rusi felt an unprecedented sense of peace.
She even wanted to continue walking this path with Li Jingyang forever.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, Li Jingyang stopped on a step.
He looked up at the setting sun, which hung in the sky and burned red, and said absentmindedly, "My mother was once one of the late emperor's most favored concubines."
“After the late emperor passed away, my mother was no longer willing to stay in the palace, as it was a place of sorrow for her. So she took the initiative to request to come to the royal nunnery from the current emperor.”
Lin Rusi nodded thoughtfully, "The palace is indeed a place of sorrow for the current Empress."
Li Jingyang turned around and asked with some concern, "Can you still walk now?"
"Tired?"
Lin Rusi shook her head, "Not tired at all."
Li Jingyang smiled slightly, "Then let's keep going, it's getting dark soon."
He was backlit, his smile gentle and tender.
Lin Rusi stared blankly at him, feeling that his eyes were like bottomless black holes.
She will be swallowed up if she is not careful.
Seeing that Lin Rusi was still in a daze, Li Jingyang asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
Lin Rusi snapped out of her thoughts, blushed, lowered her head, and said in a muffled voice, "It's nothing, let's keep going."
She lifted her skirt and quickened her pace.
For some reason, her heart was pounding.
It seemed as if it was about to leap out of that cramped chest cavity.
That's strange, really too strange.
Lin Rusi shook her head, trying to clear her mind.
Li Jingyang chuckled as he watched Lin Rusi's retreating figure and followed behind her.
"where are we going?"
Lin Rusi was slightly out of breath from walking too fast, and her cheeks were flushed.
Li Jingyang pointed to a small wooden house surrounded by tall trees on the mountaintop, "Here."
Lin Rusi looked in the direction Li Jingyang was pointing, and some fragmented images flashed through her mind.
So familiar.
This wooden house seems familiar.
